Getting Started
Does it need an internet connection?
Cutting the object out happens on your phone. Naming it needs a connection. Cards you already have review offline.
Can I use photos I already have?
Yes, from your library. The cut-out works the same either way.
What does it run on?
iPhone, on iOS 18 or later. A camera, and a connection when you capture something new.
Languages
Which languages does it work with?
Study twelve: English, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, French, Chinese, Vietnamese, German, Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian. Read the app in fifteen — those plus Cantonese, Thai and Indonesian.
Can I learn a language I already speak?
Yes. The card then shows that one language on both halves rather than a translation of itself.
If I change languages, what happens to old cards?
Nothing is rewritten. Each card keeps the pair it was made with, so the ones you already have still read correctly.
Pricing
Is it free?
Every account gets a set number of free captures. After that, capturing needs a subscription — reviewing what you have never stops.
How do I cancel?
The subscription is sold through the App Store. Manage or cancel it in iOS Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
Features
What if it names the object wrong?
Type the name yourself on the confirm screen, and CapDex rewrites the card around your answer.
Where does a card go?
Every card belongs to at least one collection. CapDex suggests one when it fits, or you name your own. A card with no collection lands in Unsorted.
How does review work?
Due words come back. Grade a card Again, Good, or Easy, and the next showing moves. A card counts as learned after three successful repetitions.
Troubleshooting
It says CapDex couldn’t spot any word.
The photo was the problem. Try another angle, move closer, or improve the light.
It says the server is busy.
Not your photo. The naming step was overloaded. Wait a moment and tap Retry.
